Dieser Eintrag zeigt die Verteilung der Bevölkerung entsprechend des Alters. Die Informationen sind nach Geschlecht und Altersgruppen (0-14 Jahre, 15-64 Jahre, 65 Jahre und mehr) gegliedert. Die Altersstruktur einer Gesellschaft beeinflußt die sozioökonomischen Ausgaben. Länder mit jungen Bevölkerungen (hoher Prozentsatz unter 15 Jahre) müssen mehr in das Schulwesen investieren, während Länder mit älteren Bevölkerungen (hoher Prozentsatzalter 65 und älter) mehr im Gesundheitssektor investieren müssen. Die Altersstruktur einer Bevölkerung kann auch auf politische Problemfelder hinweisen. So birgt das rasche Anwachsen der jüngeren Bevölkerungsgruppen bei gleichzeitiger hoher Jugendarbeitslosigkeit hohes soziales Konfliktpotential.
